CUSTOM BOX
Our experienced structural design team worked with Theory11 to create a custom box for their special edition Lord of the Rings Playing Card Box Set. The unique challenge of this project was to develop a structure that appears to be holding three decks of cards, but has a fourth deck cleverly hidden. By engineering a discrete ribbon pull mechanism, the center deck can be lifted up to discover the special edition gold playing card box encased below.

PAPER:
Outer Box: The box set used Mohawk Paper in Forest Green, and was flooded with spot ink to match the exact shade Theory11 wanted for this box.
Gold Tuck Cases: The Gold Tuck case used Cordenons Paper in Stardream Antique Gold.
Green Tuck Cases: The Green Tuck case used Neenah (Classic Crest) Paper in Epic Black.
METHODS USED:
Box Set: The Box set was a complex project, production-wise. The outer part of it required four different foil passes - black, white, gold, and textured gold. After the foil was laid down, an emboss was applied to create that tactile effect we love so much. Lastly came the diecut, then the different pieces were sent off site to be assembled and combined with the inner foam insert that holds the playing cards.
Gold Tuck Cases: The Gold tucks were produced with a gold unifraxion foil, a bronze foil, a black foil, and an emboss.
Green Tuck Cases: The Green tucks were produced with a gold unifraxion foil, a green foil, a black foil, and an emboss.
DESIGN
The Lord of the Rings box set and corresponding playing card boxes, as well as the cards inside the tucks, were all designed by Kevin Cantrell Studio.
In order for those impressive graphics to be printable through our impression-based printing processes, our pre-press team worked with the files to ensure smooth and accurate production.
